Design recommendations for the material-efficient use of high-strength steel tubes and profiles in agricultural tillage machinery (P1279)

Brief description:

The aim of the project is to work out the potential for using higher-strength hollow steel sections in agricultural machinery. The focus is on soil cultivation machines such as cultivators, harrows and ploughs, as they offer great potential for the lightweight (material-efficient) use of high-strength steels. These machines are profile-intensive constructions in which standard materials (e.g. S355) are traditionally used. The design is usually still based on experience without knowledge of the exact loads. This makes an optimal and material-appropriate design almost impossible. The weights of these machines can be significantly reduced by means of designs appropriate to the loads and by using higher-strength materials (e.g. S690). This weight reduction is necessary in order to continue to meet the increasing requirements of the legislator with regard to soil-conserving arable farming and the marginal conditions of the StVZO. In the project, load spectra are determined within the scope of test drives, with which the fatigue strengths are determined for selected details under constant and variable amplitude. Based on additional parameter studies, design and dimensioning recommendations will be developed.
